Website terms
The purpose of these pages and the terms that need separate agreement for a real engagement.
1. Publisher and use of the website
SOPHIE,SUZANNE,MARGUERITE BOUGAUD publishes this independent editorial portfolio from the French address in the professional details. Sophie Bougaud is its public name. Visitors can inspect proofreading exercises, read the proposed service scope and organise an enquiry without payment or an account. These terms concern that public use. A real manuscript engagement needs its own accepted instructions; the page is not an editing contract or an offer to accept every text submitted. No turnaround, publication placement or editorial accreditation arises merely from the site’s presentation.
2. Information and its limits
The three editorial levels describe different kinds of attention. A final proof focuses on a stable text; copy editing can address sentence-level clarity; an editorial review identifies questions and recurring issues. None automatically includes independent research, factual verification, translation, a structural rewrite or layout production. Explain the state of your manuscript before requesting a level of work. The distinction matters because a late proof and a draft still changing its argument require different effort and responsibilities. Final scope and suitability must be agreed rather than inferred from a short label.
3. Examples and illustrations
The Reading Room, Common Ground and First Light use source sentences written specifically for this portfolio. They demonstrate a comma correction, subject–verb agreement and punctuation affecting rhythm. No client manuscript, publication commission or author testimonial is represented. The accompanying comments identify why a change is suggested; they do not prove a publishing outcome or an established professional history. Keep the fictional-study context with an example if you discuss it elsewhere. The examples are explanatory works, not freely commissioned editorial deliverables for a visitor’s own project.
4. Enquiries do not send automatically
The website validates your name, reply email and message before preparing a draft. It displays the draft locally and offers an optional mailto link to [email protected]. No website submission, email delivery, booking, payment or reservation occurs when you press Prepare email draft. If you choose to open an email application, review its recipient, subject and body before deciding whether to send. The publisher cannot confirm receipt from the screen. Keep another appropriate route in mind if a matter is time sensitive.
5. Agreeing a project or service
Before an editing assignment begins, agree the word count, audience, file format and stage of the text. Specify whether you want tracked changes, a clean file, comments, a style sheet or a separate review note. Identify the person who can approve edits and the date by which review is needed. Availability, fee and delivery are confirmed for the actual material rather than set by an interest option. A sample exercise or a prepared email does not reserve editing time, authorise work or commit either party to an assignment.
6. Materials and permissions
Only supply materials you have a right to share for the proposed purpose. Explain ownership, licence limits, confidentiality needs and any restrictions on distribution before work begins. Initial enquiry text should remain brief and should not contain third-party private records, account credentials or unrestricted system access. Permission to discuss a project is not automatically permission to publish the material, include it in a public portfolio or sublicense it. Responsibility for checking supplied facts, obtaining necessary permissions and approving the final content must be assigned in the engagement.
7. Reviews, changes and acceptance
Decide how edits will be reviewed before treating a marked file as final. An author may need to answer factual questions or decide between stylistic options. A change to the manuscript after an agreed proof, a different readership or an additional format can create new work. Define the review stage and what revision is included so that an editorial concern can be distinguished from a new brief. This website gives no unlimited-revision entitlement. Keep the actual instructions and author approvals; they are more informative than a general portfolio description.
8. Fees, purchases and third-party costs
No fee, stock price or paid subscription is quoted on this website. There is no shopping cart and no mechanism to collect a card number or payment credential. Any future price must be confirmed for the actual scope, currency, taxes and any applicable third-party cost before acceptance. A service provider, printer, installer, email company or software subscription is not automatically included in a quote merely because it may be relevant to the work. Do not make a payment to an address copied from an unverified message.
9. Use of authored material
The original sample passages and explanatory marks may be read to understand the approach. Browsing does not transfer ownership of the studies or confer an exclusive production licence. Rights in a visitor’s manuscript remain with its relevant owner; the permission to edit it and any permission to display it publicly are separate questions. A future agreement should address confidentiality, use of excerpts and the handover of marked or clean files. The locally served font has its own included licence, which does not govern ownership of a commissioned text.
10. Appropriate conduct and external services
Do not misuse the site to send threats, malicious code, bulk unsolicited messages or material you cannot lawfully share. The pages do not provide secure document storage or an emergency response channel. Your browser, network and email application operate under their own settings and terms; the publisher does not control whether they retain drafts or open a particular mail handler. A local diagram or concept does not certify compatibility with every browser, device, production process or external platform. Agree technical requirements relevant to the actual deliverable.
11. Corrections, disputes and mandatory rights
If you notice incorrect information or have a concern about a received service, describe the specific page or agreement and the correction or resolution requested. The published contact is [email protected]; opening a draft alone is not confirmation of receipt. These website terms do not exclude mandatory consumer protections, data rights or other rights that cannot lawfully be excluded. Questions about a commissioned service must also be considered against the actual accepted scope and applicable law. Changes to website wording do not silently rewrite a previously accepted agreement.
